So-called ‘power skills’ are those skills that form the cornerstone of personal and professional talent. They were previously known as ‘soft skills’, but the name was changed to describe them using a term that conveys their strength and importance in society. Some relate to teamwork, empathy and active listening; within each of these, one can identify aspects of a person’s problem-solving abilities, namely critical thinking, decision-making and organisation. They also encompass interpersonal and communication skills.

The SmartTEAM educational project, developed by Logos and Educabot, is designed to promote the teaching of robotics and computational thinking in the classroom and to help students develop their ‘power skills’. Here’s why 👇🏻👇🏻

1. The ability to communicate effectively and work as part of a team

SmartTEAM promotes collaborative work on a range of technology projects. Each project features a ‘MAKER’ session, which encourages pupils to form a team, take on roles and responsibilities, and contribute their own ideas to a collaborative development. Furthermore, the programme includes classroom activities designed to develop communication skills and help pupils share their own ideas.

2. Flexibility and the ability to adapt quickly

With SmartTEAM, children take on different roles throughout the programme. The project was designed in this way so that each pupil can develop the ability to adapt to different situations and tasks.

3. Taking ownership of your responsibilities and managing them proactively

The storytelling used to present the SmartTEAM stories fosters shared leadership amongst the pupils, as each character takes centre stage and contributes according to their skills – that is, according to what they are good at. In this way, as well as encouraging a proactive approach amongst pupils, we inspire them to adopt an open and inclusive outlook, and to value everyone’s abilities – recognising that each one is equally valuable.

4. Resolve problems as quickly and cost-effectively as possible

The SmartTEAM teacher’s guide sets out a framework for organising time and space, enabling teachers to plan their lessons and establish benchmarks for the delivery of each project. This helps to create a challenging learning environment that encourages students to develop their productivity and ability to focus on a subject.

5. Effective planning and time management

Each project in each book sets out clear objectives for each of the key areas of focus: robotics, programming and computational thinking. This roadmap enables teachers to design learning activities that foster the development of these skills, by providing clear guidance and facilitating a structured teaching sequence.
