SmartTEAM has recently arrived in Chile, at a school called La Cruz. The school\u2019s Head of Educational Technology, Antonia Irraz\u00e1bal, said, with great enthusiasm, that \u201cit\u2019s incredible to see how 21st-century soft skills, such as critical thinking, creative thinking, communicative thinking and teamwork, are being developed\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The educational institution added the SmartTEAM Robotics and Programming programme to its curriculum with the aim of fostering computational thinking among its pupils, which is so essential in today\u2019s world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rosana Mu\u00f1oz, project director at Leer M\u00e1s Hoy and responsible for bringing the project to Chile, emphasised that SmartTEAM \u201coffers huge educational potential\u201d and that it was \u201cstriking to see the children\u2019s enthusiasm for the presentations at this school\u201d. She also stated that \u201cthe children have created various projects, the teachers have done an excellent job, and we are absolutely delighted that the project is going so well\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As we always say, technology is, in effect, a new form of literacy for the children of this century, and that entails knowledge, competencies and skills that the formal education system does not provide. SmartTEAM is designed to be rolled out in schools gradually, so that children can gradually acquire the knowledge and skills required for the 21st century. Furthermore, it comes with all the necessary resources for teachers, so that any teacher can teach a robotics programme \u2013 not just the technology teacher. As Sebasti\u00e1n Gubero, commercial director of SmartTEAM, explains, \u201cfirst we thought about how to teach robotics and, based on that, we developed the books, the content, the robot and the programming systems.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of the students on the workshop, Mat\u00edas Herreros, after building a robot that acts as a maths teacher and can add and subtract, said: \u201cIt\u2019s great fun; I think it\u2019s a really good robotics school, because you can interact with the robots and the teachers are really lovely. Some things are tricky; there are always problems, but they can be sorted out.\u201d Meanwhile, students Mar\u00eda Jes\u00fas Larra\u00edn and Luc\u00eda Arnaiz created a waiter robot, \u201cwhich works in a pizzeria, goes round offering food next to the tables and you can pay straight away\u201d. \u201cIt\u2019s great fun; we\u2019ve learnt a lot,\u201d they said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
